The headquarters of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation caught fire in Kuwait after an Iranian drone strike, part of a new wave of attacks by Iran on energy infrastructure across Gulf countries, according to Bloomberg.
The attack occurred around 2 a.m. local time. According to KPC, the strike hit not only the company’s main building but also the offices housing the emirate's Ministry of Oil.
Staff were urgently evacuated, and multiple firefighting units responded on site.
Persistent aggression: from refineries to airports
This incident is the latest in a series of Iranian attacks on neighboring states.
Recently, massive strikes targeted:
- The Mina Al-Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah oil refineries
- Kuwait International Airport
- Infrastructure of PIC, a fertilizer and polymer producer
Kuwait's oil sector authorities are currently coordinating with relevant agencies to assess damage and ensure the security of critical infrastructure.
The attack on Kuwait came just hours after Iran’s Fars news agency released an updated “target list,” which includes not only oil and gas assets but also water and electricity facilities across Gulf countries.
Tehran's aggressive rhetoric follows an Israeli Air Force strike earlier the same day on the Mahshahr petrochemical complex in Iran. The region is effectively in an open energy war, with oil infrastructure caught in the geopolitical conflict.
The US is considering expanding its military campaign against Iran using long-range JASSM-ER missiles.
Israel is also awaiting US approval to strike Iran's energy infrastructure, with attacks potentially imminent.
