August is already here, which means that the iPhone launch season is only a month away. For many years now, Apple has been introducing a new iPhone every September, according to 9to5Mac.
iPhone presentations of recent years
Over the past three years, the presentations of new iPhones have been as follows:
- 2023 - Tuesday, September 12
- 2022 - Wednesday, September 7
- 2021 - Tuesday, September 14
Another important point is the proximity of these dates to Labor Day in the United States. This holiday falls on the first Monday of September every year.
In 2023, the iPhone presentation took place 8 days after Labor Day. In 2022, it was just two days later. And in 2021, it was 8 days later again.
Based on this history, you can see that Apple prefers Tuesdays and Wednesdays for iPhone presentations. Tuesday is a priority, but if it falls on Labor Day week, the presentation is moved to Wednesday.
The company wants a full working day between the presentation and the beginning of the new working week.
iPhone 16 presentation date
2023 and 2021 show an identical picture. Both iPhone launch events took place on the second Tuesday of the month, exactly 8 days after Labor Day.
Following this trend, the most likely date for the iPhone 16 presentation is Tuesday, September 10.
2022 deviated from the pattern of previous years, but September 10 is still the most likely option for 2024.
This year's Labor Day falls particularly early, on September 2.
This makes Wednesday, September 4, unlikely. Especially because in some parts of the United States, the fall semester hasn't even started yet. For example, in New York, the first day of school is Thursday, September 5.
Apple probably won't hold its biggest event of the year when many people are still on vacation. This has happened before, but the following year, Apple went back to a later date.
With Labor Day coming so early and some schools starting so late, an event in the first week of September is probably out of the question.
This situation again confirms Tuesday, September 10 as the day of the iPhone 16 presentation.
When to expect iPhone 16 release
If Apple announces the iPhone 16 on September 10, pre-orders are likely to start a few days later, on Friday, September 13.
The iPhone 16 line should be in the hands of users on Friday, September 20.
