iPad Pro 2024 breakthroughs: OLED display and next-gen M4 chip
The long-awaited update of the iPad Pro from Apple has finally taken place, introducing numerous new features that are bound to attract attention. The iPad Pro 2024 truly impresses with its innovations, including the use of OLED technology for the display and the M4 chip, according to the MacRumors news website.
Improved display
Both models of the iPad Pro with 11-inch and 13-inch diagonals feature an Ultra Retina XDR display that uses OLED tandem technology. Essentially, this involves two displays stacked on top of each other.
This adds brightness, enhances contrast in blacks, and provides more detailed rendering in low-light or insufficiently illuminated conditions. Additionally, there's now an option to choose a matte nano-texture that reduces reflections and glare.
Powerful M4 chip
The M4 is created using a second-generation 3nm process with three or four productivity cores and six efficiency cores.
The processor's performance has increased by 1.5 times compared to the M2, and the graphics processor features hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing.
The M4 also boasts the most powerful neural engine capable of performing up to 38 trillion operations per second.
Slim design
Now, the 13-inch iPad Pro is only 5.1mm thick, making it the thinnest Apple device to date—even thinner than the iPod nano.
The 11-inch model is slightly thicker at 5.3mm, maintaining thin bezels for maximum screen utilization. It weighs less than a pound, while the 13-inch model weighs slightly more.
Improved camera and accessories
The front camera of the iPad Pro has been moved to a landscape orientation, making it easier to use FaceTime and video calls when connected to a keyboard.
Additionally, the package includes a new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro. The keyboard features an enlarged trackpad with tactile feedback and an aluminum wristrest. The Apple Pencil Pro has pressure sensitivity for selecting tools and a gyroscope for precise control.
Removed features
Apple has removed some options from the latest iPad Pro models. The mmWave 5G chip is no longer present, and it is limited to frequencies below 6 GHz. There's also no SIM card slot, so eSIM is only available for cellular models.
Apple has also removed the ultra-wide camera, leaving only a single-lens 12-megapixel camera and a LiDAR sensor in the new models. Sticker enthusiasts are also out of luck as Apple does not include them in the package.
