International lodging rental services implement ban on cameras in rooms: Details
The globally renowned lodging booking service Airbnb prohibits the use of surveillance cameras in rental properties. The new policy will come into effect on April 30th. The ban also extends to recording audio, according to the company's website.
Previously, hosts who offered accommodation through the Airbnb service were allowed to install cameras in hallways and living rooms if indicated in the listing. The prohibition was only on installing video cameras in bedrooms and bathrooms.
The new policy prohibits cameras in all areas, regardless of their location, purpose, or disclosure in the listing.
Similarly, eavesdropping and recording voices and sounds are prohibited. Hosts will only be allowed to measure noise in decibels and use doorbell cameras.
After April 30th, Airbnb accounts of hosts who violate this policy may be removed.
