Russian forces systematically commit war crimes. In particular, enemy commanders order the torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war, according to an intercept released by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

In the intercept, a commander of one of the units of the Russian army gives his subordinates an order to torture Ukrainian prisoners of war.

"Come on, let the one they dislike the most have his nail torn off," the soldier orders.

As noted by the Main Intelligence Directorate, this is further evidence of the systemic war crimes committed by Russian servicemen.

Russia withdraws from the Convention against Torture

Only yesterday, on August 25, Russia began the procedure of withdrawing from the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture or Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

The Russian government proposed this initiative for President Vladimir Putin to implement.

The Convention prohibits torture and obliges states to prevent it.

At the same time, Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha noted that about 90% of Ukrainian prisoners of war are subjected to torture in Russia.
