Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on Russia's Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

During a meeting with Kremlin leader Putin at the Chinese summit, Modi said that his country supports all recent efforts to establish peace.

Modi said that they were constantly discussing with Ukraine the conflict that was ongoing there, and that they supported all recent efforts to establish peace. He added that they hoped all parties would move forward constructively and called for an end to the conflict as soon as possible

At the same time, the Indian leader added that cooperation between Moscow and Delhi is important not only for the two countries but also for global peace, stability, and prosperity.

On the eve of his visit to China, Modi held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

After that, the Ukrainian leader said that India is ready to make the necessary efforts and send the appropriate signal to Russia and other leaders during meetings on the sidelines of the summit.

SCO summit

From August 31 to September 1, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit is being held in the Chinese city of Tianjin.

At the summit, Putin said that the war against Ukraine was allegedly not started by Russia's attack and will continue until, in his words, the root causes are eliminated.

On the sidelines of the summit in China, Turkish President Recep Erdogan and the Kremlin leader discussed Ukraine and a possible visit by the dictator to Türkiye.
