Erdoğan invites Putin to Türkiye to discuss situation in Ukraine

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin discussed Ukraine and a potential Putin’s visit to Türkiye. This took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China, Turkish and Russian media report.
According to Turkish sources, President Erdoğan held a meeting with the Russian leader, and during the negotiations, he invited Putin to visit Türkiye.
“This remains valid. We hope to see you in our country soon,” Erdoğan said.
Meanwhile, Putin, according to the Kremlin, at the meeting “expressed confidence that Türkiye’s special role in resolving the war in Ukraine will continue to be in demand.”
The topics of the talks included the situation in Ukraine and further ways to diplomatically resolve the conflict.
SCO summit
From August 31 to September 1,the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit is being held in Tianjin, China. More than 20 world leaders have been invited.
Among them, Russian leader Vladimir Putin arrived at the summit, where he will stay for four days. In Tianjin, he was personally welcomed by Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
In China, Putin made a cynical statement about the path to peace in Ukraine. He claims that the war against Ukraine did not start because of Russia’s attack and will continue until the “root causes” are eliminated.
