In Russia's Rostov region, polyester plant ablaze following explosion
A fire broke out at the Shakhty polyester plant in the Rostov region of Russia. Before that, eyewitnesses heard an explosion, according to Russian Telegram channel Don Mash.
According to eyewitnesses, they first heard an explosion, after which black smoke billowed in the area of the plant.
According to preliminary data, the fire area is 200 square meters. A workshop for the production of fillers for mattresses and pillows is on fire. In particular, there are reports of two victims - a woman with a broken leg and a man with burns.
According to Yekaterina Stenyakina, a State Duma deputy from the Rostov region, there is damage to the production building.
The plant was opened only in the summer of 2023 and became the first polyester staple fiber plant in Russia.
Not drone attack
The governor of Rostov Region, Vasily Golubev, denied the information about a drone attack. According to him, the air defense system in the region was not operating at the time of the explosion.
Fires in Russia
In recent months, a large number of fires have been recorded in Russia, often breaking out in Moscow and other regions. In particular, fires in ports, military facilities, factories, etc. have become more frequent.
For example, on January 13, a massive fire broke out in the warehouse of the Wildberries store in St. Petersburg, Russia. The fire covered at least 50,000 square meters, and at least 1,000 people were in the warehouse at the time of the fire.
Also on the same day, an unfinished high-rise building in Moscow was on fire. According to the network, it was a Sberbank building.
