In Hungary, alarm raises over Ukraine's decision to halt Lukoil oil transit
Hungary is dissatisfied after Ukraine halted the transit of oil from the Russian company Lukoil. They want to bring this issue to the EU Council meeting, according to Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.
Szijjártó considers Ukraine's decision to halt the transit of Lukoil oil to be "incomprehensible and unacceptable."
The Hungarian Foreign Minister added that Hungary and Slovakia depend on the Druzhba pipeline, through which Lukoil supplies about two million tons of oil per year.
"This decision seriously jeopardizes the long-term oil supply security of Hungary and Slovakia," said the Minister.
According to him, Hungary has already called on Ukraine to resolve this issue. They also intend to discuss it at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
"It's peculiar that an EU-aspiring country is endangering the energy supply of two EU member states, especially in the summer when energy consumption is at its peak," stated Szijjártó.
What preceded it
Earlier, it was reported that Lukoil oil stopped flowing to Slovakia and Hungary through Ukraine.
Ukraine's authorities decided to halt the transit due to the sanctions imposed on the Russian company.
The Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already complained that the cessation of oil supplies could negatively affect the operations of the refinery in Bratislava.
