Hungary’s Foreign Minister and his Russian counterpart discuss Ukraine
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó had a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. During the conversation, they discussed Ukraine, according to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Szijjártó said to Lavrov that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had allegedly rejected Hungary's proposal for a temporary ceasefire at the "Ukrainian front" and a large-scale prisoner exchange.
Lavrov, for his part, said that this is not the first time that “initiatives of states sincerely interested in peace” that are humanitarian in nature and aimed at organizing uninterrupted food supplies through the Black Sea and ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants have been rejected by Kyiv.
“The ministers agreed to continue a close, trust-based dialogue on various aspects of the Ukrainian crisis, taking into account the assessments and ideas of different states,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
Orbán’s talks with Putin
Yesterday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Separately, RBC-Ukraine reported on Zelenskyy’s reaction to Orbán’s initiative to call Putin.
Following the conversation, Orbán cynically claimed he was working toward peace in Ukraine.
