Hungary's Prosecutor General Gábor Bálint Nagy may resign over the Oschadbank cash convoy scandal, according to HVG, citing comments by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar.

According to Magyar, no special measures will be required for the resignation of Hungary's prosecutor general, who was appointed during the tenure of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

"It may be connected," the prime minister said in response to journalists' questions about whether the resignation was linked to the Oschadbank cash convoy case.

On March 5, 2026, Hungarian authorities stopped two armored Oschadbank vehicles near Budapest. The vehicles were transporting $40 million, €35 million, and 9 kilograms of gold as part of a routine transfer between Austria's Raiffeisen Bank and Oschadbank.

The seven cash-in-transit guards accompanying the shipment spent more than 28 hours in handcuffs. One of them was forcibly injected twice during questioning, after which he fell ill and was taken to a hospital.

After coming to power, Péter Magyar ordered an immediate investigation into the National Tax and Customs Administration, the Counter-Terrorism Center, and other agencies involved in the case.

Hungary returned all of Oschadbank's funds and valuables in full in May 2026.

Meanwhile, Hungary's new government lifted the ban on Ukrainian media outlets that had been introduced under Orbán in 2025 in response to restrictions on Hungarian media in Ukraine. The ministry described the decision as a correction of a mistake made by the previous government.
