Hungarian PM accuses head of European Commission of intending to overthrow his government
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that the debates in the European Parliament were a "crucifixion attempt" by the European Union. He believes that European politicians have already decided who they want to replace him with, Politico reports.
"Those who came there to debate wanted our blood and didn’t want a meaningful debate at all, but imagined a political thrashing and attacked us," Orbán stated.
It is worth noting that recently, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sharply criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for his pro-Russian stance. She accused him of a historical inability to support Ukraine.
"Von der Leyen and the leader of the European People’s Party, Manfred Weber, have openly announced their intention to overthrow the Hungarian government," Orbán remarked in response.
According to him, as a replacement, they want to delegate Member of the European Parliament Klára Dobrev or the leader of the opposition, Péter Magyar, a former member of the ruling Fidesz party.
Criticism of Orbán for his pro-Russian stance
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has faced criticism from EU leaders multiple times due to his alignment with Russian interests, anti-Western rhetoric echoing Kremlin narratives, and his blocking of EU assistance to Ukraine.
In particular, the Polish Foreign Ministry suggested that Orbán should exit the EU and NATO and form an alliance with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Additionally, the European Union decided to move meetings of the foreign ministers and defense ministers of the bloc from Budapest to Brussels due to Orbán's position and his "peaceful" tour.
