The Hungarian government has warned its citizens about a "survey" regarding Ukraine's EU membership. However, alongside the questions, manipulative "counterarguments" were spread, containing outright falsehoods, informs Hungarian government spokesperson Zoltán Kovács.

"Hungarians will soon receive their voting packages on Ukraine's EU membership. Included is a summary of 7 key risks of accession — issues that directly impact Hungary's future and must be weighed carefully before deciding," Kovács stated.

The first risk listed is the "financial risk." According to the survey, Hungary is allegedly set to become a net donor, with EU funds flowing into Ukraine. Furthermore, it is suggested that Brussels will seek joint borrowing, which could result in increased debt burdens for Hungary.

The second "risk" emphasizes that Ukraine's EU accession could lead to Hungarian farmers losing subsidies, as EU funds would be redirected to support Ukraine's agriculture.

The survey also raises concerns about potential threats to food quality, citing the use of genetically modified crops and banned chemicals in Ukraine, which allegedly raises doubts about the safety of products on the European market.

It is also noted that, before the war, Ukraine was allegedly a center of organized crime, which the Hungarian government claims poses a risk of weapons ending up in the wrong hands once the country joins the EU.

Additionally, the survey addresses concerns about the labor market, suggesting that cheap labor from Ukraine could lower wages and negatively affect jobs and pensions.

It further claims that mandatory vaccinations are reportedly not enforced in Ukraine, which could pose a health risk to Europe’s population with open borders.

Furthermore, it stresses that Ukraine's rapid EU accession could jeopardize the payment of the so-called 13th-month pension, an issue already under discussion in Hungary.

Hungary against Ukraine’s EU membership

Recently, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó made a statement about Hungary's intention to block Ukraine’s EU membership.

In his statement, he once again raised concerns about the rights of Hungarians in Transcarpathia.

However, it’s important to note that Sweden has responded to this threat. The country has reached out to the European Commission for proposals on advancing Ukraine’s EU membership.
