How US Congress views Trump's Ukraine policy, expert analysis

A political debate over support for Ukraine continues in the US. Amid the silence of most Republicans who avoid criticizing Donald Trump, one congressman has taken a clear stance, says Uriel Epshtein, CEO of Renew Democracy Initiative, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
He referred to Don Bacon — a Republican representative from the state of Nebraska who is a consistent supporter of aid to Ukraine.
Despite his party affiliation, he has repeatedly allowed himself to openly criticize Trump, particularly for his position on the war in Ukraine.
When necessary, Bacon often criticizes the president's views very directly. As Epshtein notes, there are politicians who have not yet dared to distance themselves from Trump's position.
“We'll see if more Republicans can recognize that and muster the courage to break with a President of their own party. We should encourage them to do so,” he said.
Trump's stance on Ukraine
Trump has repeatedly stated that, in his opinion, the US is helping Ukraine "too much," while Europe is doing "too little." He has emphasized the need to stop "uncontrolled financial aid" to Kyiv.
He has often said that if he were in power, the war would not have happened. He has also promised to "end the war in 24 hours."
Trump rarely directly condemns the actions of the Kremlin or labels Russia as the aggressor. Instead, he focuses on criticizing the Biden administration for dragging the US into the war.
It is worth noting that today, commenting on the latest massive attacks against Ukraine, US President Donald Trump said that Washington is “absolutely” considering the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia.
