How much armored equipment Russia loses over years of war: NATO stuns with numbers

Since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has lost up to 9,000 battle tanks and tens of thousands of armored vehicles, according to a senior NATO official.
According to him, as of now, the aggressor state has lost approximately 4,000 to 9,000 battle tanks. In addition, the Russian forces have lost 20,000 armored vehicles.
"They have been actively using Soviet stockpiles, dismantling equipment to keep Soviet-era systems operational. In many cases, there are no old vehicles left for such dismantling," the NATO representative said.
Currently, Russia produces about 130 tanks per month, which amounts to roughly 1,600 new tanks per year.
On average, Russia lost 950 personnel per day in September, which represents a moderate increase compared to the average figure for August. At the same time, it is lower than the rate recorded in spring and summer.
According to the NATO representative, an average of around 1,200 casualties per day has been recorded in 2025. The total number of losses now exceeds 1.1 million Russian soldiers, of whom more than 250,000 have been killed in action.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the total combat losses of the aggressor state since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022 amount to about 1,125,150 personnel, including 1,200 over the past day.
It was also reported that the number of battles between Ukrainian forces and the enemy has recently increased on the front line. The Pokrovsk direction remains the hottest area.
