Autumn blues and depression can negatively affect the condition of our skin and lead to exacerbation of various dermatological issues, such as seborrheic dermatitis, acne, and rosacea, this was discussed in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by star dermatologist and cosmetologist Daria Tishchenko, who works with many Ukrainian artists and influencers.

How autumn blues and depression affect skin health

The expert emphasizes that any physical and psychological influences on our body are reflected in our skin.

"I often observe exacerbations of dermatological conditions related to stress. Right now, I'm treating several patients who experience active seborrheic dermatitis during times of stress and tension, which can occur both at work and at home," says Daria.

The cosmetologist also personally accompanies patients abroad who have experienced flare-ups of chronic conditions, such as acne and rosacea, in the autumn.

Tishchenko connects this to several factors, one of which is undoubtedly stress and depression.

"We all know the saying, 'we are what we eat'; the skin is the first to react to both food and stress. Changes in color, density, and turgor may occur, rashes may appear, and bacterial diseases may become more active. Therefore, it's important to keep ourselves in good shape and not succumb to the temptation of being a captive of autumn blues," the expert emphasizes.

What can be done to reduce this impact

First and foremost, Daria advises paying attention to sleep and nutrition, as this helps eliminate other negative factors that can affect our skin.

She also considers physical activity an important aspect, as it allows one to forget about the blues and focus on exercise, which, in turn, has a calming effect.

And, of course, one should not forget about skincare rituals, such as cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and others.

Additionally, it's advisable to see a dermatologist-cosmetologist at least once a month, as only a comprehensive approach yields the best results.
