Hezbollah has elected new leader: Who is it?
The new leader of Hezbollah is now Naim Qassem. He was the deputy of the former head of the terrorist group, Hassan Nasrallah, who was eliminated by the Israeli army in September, according to Reuters.
The Shura Council, which is the main decision-making body of Hezbollah, has agreed to appoint 71-year-old Naim Qassem as the organization’s new Secretary-General.
Qassem graduated from Beirut University and became one of the founding members of Hezbollah in 1982.
Since 1991, Qassem has served as the deputy leader of the group, and after Nasrallah's elimination, he assumed the role of acting head of Hezbollah.
Elimination of Hezbollah’s leader
On September 27, Israel conducted an airstrike on Beirut, which resulted in the elimination of Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah. At the time of the attack, he was in the group's central headquarters.
Just a few days later, Hezbollah decided to announce Hashem Safi al-Din as their new leader.
However, on October 5, the new leader of Hezbollah was killed in another Israeli strike on Beirut.
