Due to a helicopter crash in New York, Siemens executive Agustín Escobar was killed. Among the victims were also his three children aged 4 to 11, ABC News reports.

On board the Bell 206 tourist helicopter, which crashed into the Hudson River in New York the day before, were the executive of the European technology company Siemens, his wife, and their young children. No one survived the incident.

Agustín Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their children, aged 4, 5, and 11, were identified as victims of the crash along with the 36-year-old pilot, law enforcement sources told Western media.

The identity of the pilot, who operated the charter helicopter for New York Helicopters, has not yet been disclosed.

The US National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating what led to the deadly incident in New York.

Helicopter crash

The crash occurred yesterday in the afternoon (local time) near the shoreline of River Drive in Hoboken, New Jersey, just over 15 minutes after the aircraft took off from the Wall St. Heliport, officials said during a press briefing.

The helicopter reached the George Washington Bridge, then turned south and crashed.

The helicopter, identified by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Bell 206, was making its sixth flight of the day.

Officials told journalists that the aircraft was found overturned in the water when rescuers arrived at the scene.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke about the crash during the briefing, stating that "our hearts go out to the family and those on board."

Escobar and his family arrive in US from Spain

Earlier, Escobar's family have arrived in New York from Barcelona, Spain, two Spanish officials tell ABC News.

Escobar was named as an executive of Siemens' division in Spain and Southwest Europe in 2022.

The former head of Siemens' Spanish arm, Miguel Ángel López, spoke highly of Escobar. In a press release, López noted that "in recent years his (Escobar's - ed.) work has been key to Siemens' success in the field of mobility and transport."

As previously reported, in late January a transport plane crashed on the outskirts of Philadelphia, resulting in the deaths of 7 people.

Before that, in Washington, a Bombardier CRJ700 passenger plane collided with a UH-60 Black Hawk military helicopter, and the wreckage fell into a river. That crash resulted in the deaths of 67 people - 60 passengers and 4 crew members on the civilian aircraft, as well as three military personnel aboard the helicopter.
