A new phase of armament has begun in the war initiated by Russia. It is about the use of ground drones, according to Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.

According to Budanov, advancements in technology are to be expected during the war. He believes there is a simple explanation for this.

"Drones have no fear. We have entered a new phase—ground robots, though they have just begun to appear. I believe that by the end of this calendar year, their numbers will increase exponentially. People are reluctant to go into battle, so if you can send a drone, 10 drones or one soldier, you will always choose to send 10 drones, believe me," Budanov said.

He noted that technological advancements and innovations always come with countermeasures.

"It always goes hand in hand, believe me. If someone is developing drones, others will develop electronic warfare, and vice versa. But as I mentioned, drones have become the hallmark of this war and will impact all wars probably for the next 50 years, so these two technologies will always go together: the development of technology and the development of countermeasures, i.e., electronic warfare," Budanov emphasized.

Ukrainian-made weapons

Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian military production has accelerated, including the production of drones. Both new aerial drones and naval and ground drones have been developed.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced the creation and successful use of a domestically-made drone missile called Palianytsia. He stressed that this is not the last innovation from Ukraine's defense sector.
