The head of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze, arrived in Kyiv for an unannounced visit, Deutsche Welle reports.

According to the media outlet, Schulze arrived in Kyiv “to personally hand over part of the aid to the population of Ukraine from Germany.” The aid is primarily aimed at restoring the country's energy infrastructure.

According to Schulze, Russia is targeting Ukraine's energy system to leave Ukrainians “in the cold, in the dark,” and therefore Berlin has found additional funds to help restore electricity and heat supply.

This is the fourth visit of the head of the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.

Energy situation in Ukraine

Ukraine's power system is currently recovering from eleven massive attacks by Russian occupiers since the beginning of the year. Due to the attacks, there is a significant power shortage, and hourly blackouts are being introduced for residential consumers.

According to Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Russia continues to prepare resources for new attacks on Ukraine.
