Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, after meeting with US President Donald Trump, told EU leaders in Davos that he was concerned about the American leader’s mental state, reports Politico.
As many as five sources among EU diplomats said that Fico, one of the few allies of Trump in Europe, was indeed very concerned during his conversation with the leaders of several EU countries in Davos.
Fico spoke about his visit to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on January 17. During the informal meeting, the Slovak prime minister described the behavior of the US president as “dangerous” and added that the American leader appeared to be “out of his mind.”
Moreover, the Slovak prime minister did not choose his words and several times called the US president “out of his mind.” What exactly Trump said to Fico that triggered such a reaction on his part remains unknown.
The sources themselves were not present at the meeting but said they heard about Fico’s statements from European leaders who had spoken with the Slovak prime minister. According to one diplomat, Fico “seemed to be traumatized” by what happened at the meeting with Trump.
The White House, as usual, said that the media information was “fake” and supposedly based on attempts to attract attention by Europeans. Trump’s team was unable to substantiate this claim.
“This is absolutely total fake news from anonymous European diplomats who are trying to be relevant. The meeting at Mar-a-Lago was positive and productive,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said.
Another source, a Trump administration official who was present at the meeting, said that he truly does not understand the reasons for such concern. According to him, there were no awkward moments or inappropriate exchanges during the meeting — it was “pleasant, normal and included some lighthearted exchanges .”
Back in mid-December 2025, Fico said he had received an official invitation from Trump to visit the United States and hold a personal meeting with him. The meeting took place just over a month later — on January 17, 2026.
In November, Fico said that his government supports the US peace plan on Ukraine. He also acknowledged that the document benefits Russia, but this did not prevent him from expressing full support for the document.
