Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he has received an official invitation from US President Donald Trump to visit the United States and hold a personal meeting with him, Fico made the corresponding post on Facebook.

According to him, the invitation was the result of Slovakia’s "sovereign foreign policy."

"A sovereign foreign policy oriented toward all four corners of the world delivers results. We are respected, receive investment proposals, and world leaders do not avoid us," he wrote, mentioning in particular his meetings with the leaders of Russia and China.

Fico clarified that the written invitation was handed to him by a special envoy of the US president. According to the Slovak prime minister, during the visit, the parties plan to discuss the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, as well as exchange views on current international issues.

The trip is expected to take place during the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of US independence and the hosting of the FIFA World Cup.

"The time frame of my visit will coincide with the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of US independence and the hosting of the FIFA World Cup," Fico said.

Trump is unhappy with Slovakia

In September, a number of media outlets, citing sources in the White House, reported that Donald Trump, during a conversation with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, insisted on Europe’s complete refusal to import Russian oil and gas.

Later, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the US president expressed strong dissatisfaction that Hungary and Slovakia continue to purchase Russian gas.

In response, Fico said that many European countries are already receiving liquefied natural gas to replace imports from Russia.
