Harris leads Trump by 5% in US presidential election - Poll
Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, is leading Republican Donald Trump in the upcoming US Presidential election scheduled for November 5th, with a reported 42% support compared to Trump's 37%, citing Reuters.
According to the latest Ipsos poll, Harris has widened her lead since July, when the Reuters/Ipsos survey showed her with 37% support compared to Trump's 34%. The nationwide poll, conducted from August 2nd to 7th among 2,045 adult Americans, also indicated that 4% of respondents support independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., down 6% from July.
Additionally, a separate Ipsos poll found that Harris is ahead of Trump in key battleground states where the election is expected to be most competitive, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. In these states, Harris garners 42% of the vote compared to Trump's 40%, although specific state-by-state data was not disclosed.
Harris officially launched her campaign on July 21st after 81-year-old President Joe Biden suspended his re-election bid and endorsed her following a poor performance in the June 27th debate against Trump.
Prior Reuters/Ipsos polls had shown a deadlock between Biden and Trump, although Biden's numbers had been weaker compared to his 2020 victory over Trump.
