Hamas raped and mutilated women during attack on Israel - Biden
U.S. President Joe Biden has stated that Hamas militants repeatedly raped and mutilated women during their attack on southern Israel on October 7, Reuters reports.
Speaking at a fundraising event for his election campaign in Massachusetts, the U.S. president revealed that in recent weeks, numerous reports of the "unimaginable cruelty" of Palestinian Hamas militants have appeared.
"Reports of women raped — repeatedly raped — and their bodies being mutilated while still alive, of women's corpses being desecrated, Hamas terrorists inflicting as much pain and suffering on women and girls as possible and then murdering them. It is appalling," Biden said.
The Israeli police are investigating possible sexual crimes committed by hundreds of Hamas terrorists arrested after the October 7 attack. The Ministry of Justice stated that the victims were tortured, raped, burned alive, and dismembered.
Israel-Hamas war
On October 7, Hamas militants invaded Israel, initiating the killing and abduction of both military and civilian individuals. Shortly after, Jerusalem declared the Operation Iron Swords and targeted terrorist locations in the Gaza Strip.
On November 24, a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began for the release of prisoners. At that time, the parties agreed to a four-day ceasefire but decided to extend it for two more days with the condition that militants release more hostages.
On December 1, Israel resumed military operations in the Gaza Strip. The IDF claimed that Hamas violated the terms of the ceasefire.
According to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Israel resumed fire after Hamas refused to release hostages, including two children.
