On Monday, July 28, an unknown individual opened fire in downtown Manhattan, New York. Two people, including a police officer, were injured, according to ABC News.

The shooting took place near an office building on Park Avenue. The suspect shot both the officer and a civilian. Their conditions are currently unknown.

Sources from ABC also reported that the suspect took his own life, hiding inside the building at 345 Park Avenue. He died on the 33rd floor of the building.

Additionally, according to sources, the office building housing the headquarters of investment firms Blackstone and the NFL has been placed under lockdown.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams earlier urged residents to avoid the area due to an active investigation into the shooting incident.

The city police also strongly recommended that people avoid East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue because of police activity.

Meanwhile, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino tweeted that agents and staff from the New York FBI field office have been dispatched to provide support at the crime scene in Manhattan.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she has been briefed on the situation.
