The Greek tanker Skiros was attacked in the Black Sea after loading a shipment of Russian oil at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal near Novorossiysk, Bloomberg reports.

According to sources cited by the outlet, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 16, near the terminal. The Suezmax-class Skiros can carry around 1 million barrels of oil.

The CPC is primarily used to export Kazakh oil, but this time the tanker loaded a Russian shipment. An Athens-based company listed in the Equasis system as the manager of the Skiros said no one was injured in the incident and there was no pollution. The company declined to provide further comment.

This was the first attack on a vessel calling at the CPC terminal after an almost three-week pause. Last month, a series of drone attacks had already disrupted oil loading and led to reduced production at Kazakh oil fields.

The CPC is one of the key export routes for Kazakh oil. Recently, almost 2% of global oil supplies passed through the pipeline.

Earlier this month, Ukraine agreed not to attack CPC infrastructure or vessels carrying non-Russian cargo and heading to the terminal.

However, the agreement does not apply to vessels carrying Russian oil or those subject to Ukrainian sanctions.

A previous series of attacks on tankers in the Black Sea had already put Kazakhstan’s oil exports through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal at risk.

Due to shipping risks, Kazakhstan was forced to suspend oil supplies to the terminal.
