Gov. Tim Walz pledges to protect Minnesota from Trump's economic chaos

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has pledged to protect his state from the "chaos" he says Donald Trump has brought to the country and the world, reports AP News.
In his annual State of the State address, Governor Tim Walz declared that the current period of national uncertainty is a direct result of President Trump's decisions.
"The president of the United States has chosen – chosen! – to throw our economy into turmoil," Walz stated, pointing to rising prices, mass layoffs, and financial market instability.
He stressed the need to safeguard Minnesota's budget and assured, "As governor, I will continue to do everything in my power to protect Minnesotans from getting hurt and continue to provide shelter from the storm for Minnesotans."
This was Walz's first major statewide address since the 2024 campaign, where he ran as the Democratic vice-presidential nominee.
Walz is also considering a third term as governor, as Minnesota's political scene remains tense with a tied House and a narrow Senate majority for Democrats.
"Trump's chaos" becomes a rallying cry for Democrats nationwide
Other leading Democrats have also made resisting Trump's influence central to their campaigns.
In Michigan, Rep. Haley Stevens recently launched her Senate run promising to defend jobs and the auto industry from "Trump's chaos and reckless tariffs," saying, "His chaos and reckless tariffs are putting tens of thousands of Michigan jobs at risk."

Similarly, in Colorado, Senator Michael Bennet announced his gubernatorial bid, framing it as a stand against Trump's impact on democracy and the economy:
"There is not a person in the Senate who's more worried about what Trump is doing to our democracy and our economy than I am. The best place to fight that fight is from the state of Colorado."

With more Democratic leaders across the country making the defense against Trump's chaos a core part of their platforms, the theme is rapidly becoming a national rallying point.
