'Go to sleep ugly, wake up beautiful' - New Morning Shed trend and its danger

A new trend called Morning Shed has gone viral on TikTok. Its supporters believe that "the uglier you fall asleep, the more beautiful you wake up." In the corresponding videos, women show their morning and evening grooming routine, transforming themselves dramatically in just a few minutes.
What is Morning Shed
The women show how they apply permanent masks, stick special patches and tapes on their faces, curl their hair, use various masks for the chin and other areas, and wear funny hats. As a result, after such care, they look as strange as possible, but in the morning they get the desired result.

What people are saying online
As is often the case, users react to this trend in different ways. Some admire it, while others criticize it.
For example, Danielle Sinai, editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine, asked in her article to leave this trend alone. She explained that there are people who don't need or care about this beauty routine, while others benefit from it. At the same time, the author emphasized that women who want to devote enough time to their grooming should not be ridiculed.
"This rhetoric of 'not those girls' reinforces the idea that women's interests are superficial and trivial. They say it's bad for a woman to spend a lot of time on herself. Cool girls don't immediately jump out of bed and look stunning," explains Daniel.
At the same time, another user, a mother of two from Dallas, notes that for her, Morning Shed is a pleasant ritual and a way to cheer up.
It's half an hour that she can devote to herself, not to everyday life. And she has more free time in the morning because she has prepared for her "beauty" in the evening.
However, there are many who condemn this trend. Here are some of their comments:
- "I am aging the way I am supposed to age. I want to sleep well and be comfortable."
- "We as a society have just gone crazy"
- People are so afraid of old age that they fall into an unhealthy obsession"
- "This trend is insane. The sleep I will lose while doing all this will age me faster. I choose natural old age."

In her article for Allure, journalist Maria Santa Poggi drew attention to the fact that this trend has long-term consequences.
"People strive for perfection even in their carefree and unconscious state. It's quite natural to want to look beautiful, but makeup itself has become a culture that can lead to an obsession with beauty, excessive consumption of procedures that are not always safe and effective," explains Maria.

What can be the danger of this beauty trend
Some experts say that the Morning Shed has negative consequences, and you should be careful with some of its elements.
For example, mouth guards, which supposedly eliminate snoring and make the jaw look beautiful, can lead to suffocation, especially if a person has sleep apnea (stopping breathing during sleep for more than 10 seconds).
Dermatologists warn that some cosmetics are not intended to be used overnight. If left on for too long, it creates a "greenhouse" for bacteria.
And night caps are not suitable for everyone. For example, dry and curly hair can still "accept" it, while oily hair can suffer and dandruff can appear.
American dermatologist Andrea Suarez emphasizes that the best self-care is quality sleep.
Also, the cosmetologist named two procedures that are useful to do in cold weather.
