Germany will not disclose details about the American weapons to be supplied to Ukraine at this time. Discussing it publicly would not be the right approach, stated German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with Tagesthemen.

Pistorius said that during his visit to Washington, he discussed the full range of potential US deliveries with his American counterpart, Pete Hegseth. However, he did not specify what types of weapons were discussed, aside from the Patriot air defense systems.

"We agreed to keep this confidential until we see what the outcomes will be in the coming weeks. Talking about it publicly right now would not be the right approach. We want to become more unpredictable in what we do," the German defense chief said.

He added that it’s too early to call recent statements by US President Donald Trump a "fundamental shift" in the war.

According to Pistorius, Trump’s latest remarks confirm that Europeans will have to "open their wallets wider and faster" to buy weapons for Ukraine. The US no longer intends to pay for these costs, and that responsibility will fall on European allies.

While the final parameters of the procurement are still being defined, working groups are expected to agree on all details as soon as possible, he noted.

US–NATO agreement

On July 14, the United States and NATO signed an agreement that provides for the delivery of American weapons to Ukraine, funded by European countries.

According to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, under the agreement, Ukraine could receive a significant number of air defense systems, missiles, and ammunition.

Media reports indicate that the US will not directly supply weapons to Ukraine. Instead, NATO member states are expected to deliver arms from their own stockpiles, which will later be replenished.

Additionally, Donald Trump announced that 17 Patriot systems are being prepared for delivery to Ukraine, with arrival expected within days.

At the same time, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany plans to purchase two Patriot systems for Ukraine, though the delivery may be delayed.
