Germany to provide €65 million in aid to Ukraine
Germany will allocate an additional 65 million euros to help Ukraine. The funds will be spent on repairing Ukraine's energy infrastructure, according to the press service of the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
The Ministry clarified that the funds for Ukraine will be allocated through the Credit Institution for Reconstruction and directed to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund of the Energy Community, which has been receiving contributions from numerous international donors since 2022.
"Ukraine's civilian energy infrastructure continues to be a target of massive Russian airstrikes. A collapse of the energy supply during the third winter of the war would have catastrophic consequences for Ukraine's economy and population. That is why supporting Ukraine is more important than ever," said Germany's Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck.
He added that this assistance is an important contribution to maintaining Ukraine's energy supply.
By the end of 2024, Germany's contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund of the Energy Community will increase to €360 million.
Attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities
Ukraine's energy infrastructure remains a primary target for Russian forces.
Since the start of the full-scale war, the enemy has destroyed or damaged a significant number of power generation facilities across the country.
As a result, power outage schedules are now being implemented across the country.
