Germany to deploy Patriot near Ukrainian border this month
This month, Germany will deploy Patriot air defense systems in Rzeszow, Poland. This is not far from the border with Ukraine, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius says.
According to him, Ukraine's partners understand how important Rzeszow is as a logistics hub when it comes to helping Ukraine.
Pistorius said that he didn't have a detailed schedule of his meetings for the next two weeks, especially given that there was an election campaign in Germany, but that in January he would go to Rzeszow personally to ensure that the Patriot defense systems started operating there that month.
In 2023, a service center for the repair of Ukrainian Leopard tanks was opened in Poland.
Protecting Polish logistics hub to help Ukraine
Earlier, we wrote that NASAMS air defense systems and F-35 fighters were deployed in Rzeszow to protect the logistics center for assistance to Ukraine.
Norway has also promised to provide Poland with F-35 fighter jets and NASAMS air defense systems to protect the logistics center.
At the end of November last year, Germany announced its readiness to deploy Patriot air defense systems to Poland to protect the key logistics hub that delivers supplies to Ukraine. Berlin plans to do this in early 2025.
