Germany to continue support for Ukraine in 2025 despite coalition collapse - Reuters
Germany will continue to help Ukraine in 2025. This will happen despite the collapse of the coalition, according to Reuters.
The agency noted that Germany will be able to provide most of the 4 billion euros promised to Ukraine, even if the 2025 budget is not approved on time due to the collapse of the coalition government.
This is because the funds are mainly committed appropriations, so they can be allocated under a temporary budget management framework if the budget is not passed.
At the same time, a possible delay in the budget for the next year may mean a lack of spending on new projects, but some expenses, such as additional support for Ukraine, can still be approved.
"Launching new funding programs would require a decision from the budget committee or the Bundestag... Thus, there is a certain limitation on new programmes, but everything already in place can continue as planned," said Economy Minister Robert Habeck.
It is worth noting that last night, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner. After that, the ruling coalition in Germany collapsed, as the Free Democratic Party decided to leave the coalition following Lindner's dismissal.
Lindner sharply criticized Scholz today after his dismissal from the government, claiming that the Chancellor allegedly hindered support for Ukraine.
