'I wanted to give Taurus': Lindner criticizes Scholz after leaving government
The dismissed German Finance Minister, Christian Lindner, has accused Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He claimed that the Chancellor allegedly obstructed "effective military support for Ukraine," citing Berliner Zeitung.
Lindner said that his Free Democratic Party (FDP) never hesitated in supporting aid for Ukraine.
At the same time, the publication notes that when Scholz demanded three billion euros in aid for Ukraine, Lindner pointed to the difficult financial situation and suggested providing Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles instead.
In response, Scholz allegedly categorically rejected this possibility and informed Lindner of his dismissal.
According to the newspaper, on the matter of supplying the Taurus missiles, both the FDP and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) are united — recently, CDU leader Friedrich Merz called for issuing Russia a 24-hour ultimatum.
Coalition breakdown
Yesterday, on November 6, Scholz dismissed German Finance Minister Christian Lindner. The Chancellor explained his decision by claiming that the minister had "breached his trust."
In light of this, Germany's ruling coalition has collapsed, as the Free Democratic Party, which Lindner represents, decided to withdraw from it.
More details about the coalition's breakdown can be found in RBC-Ukraine's report.
