Germany to allocate additional €200 million for humanitarian aid to Ukraine
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha that Germany will provide an additional 200 million euros in humanitarian aid to Ukraine in preparation for winter.
"We are increasing our humanitarian support. An additional 200 million euros for winter assistance. Homes without heat will be able to ensure warmth for themselves," Baerbock said.
She added that generators would be provided to supply heat to homes during the winter.
In addition, the German Foreign Minister emphasized that strengthening Ukraine's air defense remains the best form of protection for the country.
According to Baerbock, Germany will coordinate efforts within the framework of the "International Air Defense Initiative."
She also noted discussions with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on collaboration in drone manufacturing.
German support for Ukraine
In May, Germany announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, including weapons worth 500 million euros, such as IRIS-T missiles.
In August, media reported that Chancellor Olaf Scholz had directed that new funding requests for Ukraine assistance would not be approved. However, approximately 8 billion euros had been allocated in Germany's 2024 budget for military support to Ukraine.
Additionally, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the German government could find additional resources to continue arms supplies to Ukraine in 2024.
In October, the German government updated its military aid list for Ukraine, which now includes Leopard 1A5 tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
