Germany sends another IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine – Scholz
Germany has sent the sixth IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine as part of its military support, the monitoring project German Aid to Ukraine reports, citing the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"What is coming delivered right now is another IRIS-T system, today, I believe, and Gepard SPAAGS, which we are continuing to provide with all the ammunition whose production we have restarted," said the German Chancellor.
Ukrainian online media on military topics Militarnyi clarifies that Olaf Scholz did not specify which air defense system was being referred to – SLS or SLM. Both systems differ regarding missiles, chassis, and the range of intercepting air targets.
However, the monitoring project German Aid to Ukraine specifies the SLS system.
Germany's support for Ukraine
Germany plays a significant role as an ally of Ukraine, providing military, humanitarian, and financial aid amid the ongoing full-scale war. Since the beginning of the war, the German government has supplied Kyiv with modern military equipment. Among the items are self-propelled artillery systems, air defense systems, combat tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and other types of weaponry.
Recently, Olaf Scholz announced a new military aid package for Kyiv. Under this assistance, Ukraine will receive two IRIS-T air defense systems by the end of the year, along with other supplies.
