Germany develops plan to redeploy troops in case of Russia's attack on NATO
The Bundeswehr, together with NATO allies, is developing a strategy for the redeployment of German troops to the eastern flank of Europe in the event of a Russian military attack on the Alliance, according to Der Spiegel.
The Operational Plan Germany (OPLAN DEU) stipulates that in the event of a Russian attack on NATO's eastern flank, up to 800,000 Alliance soldiers and more than 200,000 pieces of various equipment will need to be redeployed across the country within 3-6 months.
The key route from west to east will be the A2 highway, which runs from the city of Oberhausen to the Berlin ring road.
According to the publication, the Bundeswehr, the leadership of the federal states, and the German government continue to work on this secret plan. In particular, they are working on the safety of the route, its bottlenecks, and alternatives, and studying the capabilities of civilian infrastructure to accept and maintain such a large number of vehicles and military in case of possible problems with the road.
The Hohenwarte bridge over the Elbe, which is almost 1200 meters long, is considered a bottleneck. If this bridge were to be blown up in the event of sabotage or a missile attack, the A2 highway could be completely paralyzed.
According to Deutsche Welle, Germany began developing an operational defense plan in March 2023 against the backdrop of Russia's war against Ukraine. This document contains several hundred pages and prescribes the actions of the troops and authorities in the event of war.
According to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, the Bundeswehr should be ready for a war with Russia by 2029.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Russia wanted to kill the CEO of Rheinmetall. But the US and Germany foiled the Russian operation.
