During a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that a debate continues over whether to provide Ukraine with certain systems, including Taurus missiles. However, the country is not scaling back its military aid.

"Regarding certain systems, we are discussing whether to provide them or not. This concerns both the range and who can program them," Scholz said.

However, he emphasized that this does not mean Germany is reducing its support for Ukraine.

"It will remain very extensive. We have calculated that by 2026, if we continue at this pace, we could equip six Ukrainian brigades," the German chancellor added.

Taurus missiles for Ukraine

It should be noted that Ukraine has been requesting long-range Taurus air-launched missiles from the German government for months to strike Russian targets.

However, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has not changed his stance on supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine. He opposes such aid, citing the potential risk of escalation.

Specifically, he reiterated yesterday his refusal to deliver the missiles to Ukrainian defenders. Scholz believes that supplying Taurus missiles would amount to "playing Russian roulette with Germany's security."
