Germany is actively negotiating with its European allies and the United States on providing Ukraine with missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said this during a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv, according to an RBC-Ukraine correspondent.
"This is a decisive question for the future of Europe: how will this war end? It must end in a way that ensures the rule of law prevails, rather than the law of the jungle," Wadephul said.
The German minister noted that this is why he is taking part in discussions with European and other counterparts on continued support for Ukraine, including air defense systems.
"I will continue these discussions next week, as I have agreed with all my colleagues, and the impressions from this trip will be very important for this. This once again underscores the urgent need to support Ukraine with additional air defense systems. I have made this case, and all the discussions so far have gone well," Wadephul said.
He expressed confidence that the allies would be able to find and provide Ukraine with Patriot missiles.
"I am confident that we can achieve something. In any case, I want to emphasize once again the urgency of this issue. This is also the basis for our continued readiness for negotiations. I will also discuss this issue with my American counterpart Marco Rubio at the beginning of the week," the German foreign minister added.
As previously reported, Ukraine needs at least 300 missiles for Patriot systems to effectively defend its airspace and get through the coming winter. Despite all the difficulties, Ukraine's partners are listening to Kyiv's needs and sending positive signals.
