German fighters intercepted Russian planes near Latvia for first time
German Eurofighter intercept Russian planes near Latvia. This happened for the first time, according to the Latvian Air Force.
The incident occurred on Friday, March 1st. German fighters took off from the Latvian military base Lielvarde to intercept Russian aircraft near Latvia's territorial waters.
According to reports, this is the first time German Eurofighter jets from the Latvian military base have embarked on such a mission.
Latvian Minister of Defense, Andris Sprūds, responded to the incident.
"NATO airspace patrolling is fully operational, and allies can respond immediately. Today, German Eurofighter jets took off from the airbase for the first time to intercept two Russian military aircraft near Latvia's territorial waters," he wrote on Twitter (X).

Similar incidents
At the end of February, Germany scrambled a Eurofighter jet to intercept a Russian military aircraft Il-20M, which was spotted in the vicinity of Finland.
