German Defense Minister skeptical about circular exchange of Taurus with UK
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is skeptical of UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron's idea of a circular exchange of Taurus and Storm Shadow missiles, according to Tagesschau.
When asked whether this is an appropriate solution to the Taurus debate, Pistorius said: "I don't think so."
"But that was it," the Minister says.
Background
The day before, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron said that the UK was ready to help Germany overcome its differences and provide Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles.
As Cameron explained, London envisions a possible circular exchange. For example, Germany would give the UK Taurus missiles, and London would provide Ukraine with additional Storm Shadow missiles.
At the same time, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock is open to a proposal to exchange missiles with Britain.
Discussions are currently underway to provide Ukraine with German Taurus missiles capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 500 kilometers. Berlin is still opposed, but Ukraine and its allies are calling on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to make a decision.
