German Defense Ministry convenes Group of Five on Ukraine and European security

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius convened an urgent video conference with defense ministers from five NATO countries. European ministers discussed Ukraine and their future cooperation, according to DPA.
The Group of Five meeting took place on March 3, bringing together representatives from Germany, France, the UK, Italy, and Poland. The ministers reaffirmed their political and military support for Ukraine.
"All agree that Ukraine can rely on the continued and broad support of the Group of Five," the German Defense Ministry stated after the meeting.
The meeting was reportedly called urgently after a dispute between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House last week.
According to the outlet, the dispute has raised concerns that the United States may withdraw its critical support for Ukraine amid improving US relations with Russia.
The next Group of Five meeting is scheduled for March 12 in Paris, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen European security and defense cooperation.
Zelenskyy-Trump clash
On Friday, February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump met at the White House, where a clash took place in the Oval Office.
Trump did not like Zelenskyy’s remark that the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine would be felt even in the US. Following this, the American President raised his voice during the conversation.
As a result, the planned joint press conference was canceled, along with the signing of a minerals deal.
