Fury faces Joshua - Here's lowdown on their coming matchup

The landmark boxing showdown between British boxers Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is becoming a reality. According to GB News, both opponents have already agreed to the fight.
Big battle without titles
The parties have already agreed to hold the bout under the loud title "The Battle of the Brits." It will occur at London's Wembley Stadium by the end of 2025.
"Fury and Joshua is a case of when, not if. Tyson has agreed to come out of retirement to face AJ, which is why he's been working hard in the gym in recent months. Things should be made official in the coming weeks," the GB News source stated.
Journalists from the British outlet are convinced the fight will happen. The sides are negotiating for two bouts, including a rematch.
According to their information, the organizers have achieved the main goal—both Fury and Joshua have agreed to the bout. However, it should be noted that no contracts have been signed yet—the agreement is currently only verbal.
The division of the purse is expected to be the main stumbling block in the negotiations. British media said Fury earned over £67 million in his last fight against Usyk. A potential clash with Joshua promises to be even more lucrative.
Previously, Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn stated that organizing the bout would be "much easier" since both boxers have lost their championship titles. Thus, the main intrigue lies in the personal rivalry, not the belts.
"Sometimes you don't need the world championship belt. Sometimes when you've got two champions trying to become undisputed, it's a little bit cagey," said Hearn.
When opponents last fought
36-year-old Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) announced his retirement at the beginning of January after suffering a second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. It was with the Ukrainian that he fought twice in 2024.
In September of last year, 35-year-old Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) last stepped into the ring. He was knocked out in the 5th round in a bout for the IBF title against Daniel Dubois.
