Former world champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua came face-to-face for the first time ahead of their fight. The British rivals held a traditional face-off following a press conference in London.
Friendly exchange and a long stare-down
Following the official announcement of their upcoming clash, the rivals met at a press conference in London, which unfolded in a surprisingly calm and friendly atmosphere.
Fury publicly praised Joshua's enormous contribution to British boxing and his achievements as a former world champion. In turn, Joshua recalled his historic triumph over Volodymyr Klitschko at Wembley and emphasized the importance of bringing world titles back to Britain.
The boxers then took part in a traditional face-off that lasted for more than a minute. Both athletes appeared to be in great spirits, and the stare-down ended with smiles, with Joshua jokingly appearing ready to tickle his opponent.
A championship belt that the fighters will compete for was also unveiled during the event.
When the fight will take place
However, the friendly jokes do not diminish the seriousness of their intentions. Tyson Fury has already promised to engage in an all-out battle and knock out his opponent.
"I’m gonna come out and blast him out of there. I ain’t gonna run away, I’m not gonna box, I’m gonna throw down. From what I’m seeing, I’m going to catch him, and when I do, it’s going to be curtains. And that’s it," the Gypsy King promised.
The long-awaited showdown between the British stars will take place on December 11 in Cardiff, Wales. The winner of the fight will regain world champion status in the heavyweight division, with the prestigious WBA super champion title on the line.
