Today, October 21, the Czech volunteer initiative Darek pro Putina (A Gift for Putin) launched a fundraiser to purchase a Ukrainian ballistic missile called Flamingo, according to the initiative's website.

The volunteers reported that the missile’s developer, the Fire Point company, has granted permission to purchase it. The estimated cost of the Flamingo” is nearly 600,000 dollars.

"After payment, the missile will be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They will decide when to use it and determine its target. Perhaps soon we’ll find out where it lands," they said.

After purchasing the missile, the volunteers plan to name it DANA 1 in honor of Dana Drábová, a Czech politician and physicist who passed away in early October.

What is known about the Flamingo

The FP-5 Flamingo, a Ukrainian-made missile, was officially unveiled several months ago. It carries more than a ton of explosives and has a flight range of up to 3,000 km.

The British magazine The Economist reported that a single Flamingo launch costs €500,000. By comparison, the American Tomahawk cruise missile is more accurate but costs €2 million per unit.

Manufacturer Fire Point initially said it would produce 30 units per month, but that figure has now risen to 50 units per month.

Earlier reports said that Ukraine has already begun serial production of Flamingo cruise missiles.

Ukrainian forces have begun using Flamingo missiles to strike important targets in Russia.

RBC-Ukraine also reported that Ukraine used three Flamingo missiles to strike an FSB intelligence base in occupied Crimea.
