Frozen Russian currency assets should be used for the recovery of Ukraine, states Olli Rehn, the Director of the Bank of Finland, who officially became a presidential candidate in the country from the "Center" party.

According to his words, in the position of the President of Finland, he will be able to use his experience, values, and methods of work. Rehn noted that among his opponents in the presidential race will be experienced candidates, which is good for the voters.

In his speech, he also reminded that foreign policy is within the competence of the president. Rehn also touched upon the issue of the war in Ukraine.

"Frozen Russian currency assets should be used for the recovery of Ukraine," stated the centrist candidate.

The first round of the presidential elections in Finland will take place in January 2024.

Finland's aid

Earlier, the Finnish government issued a mandate to develop a plan for the country's participation in the recovery of Ukraine.

In addition, in August, Finnish President Sauli Vainamo Niinisto, upon the government's recommendation, approved the decision to provide Ukraine with the 18th package of military assistance.

Finland is also exploring the possibility of producing Patria armored personnel carriers in Ukraine.
