'Friends' star Matthew Perry passed away at 54
The American actor known for his role in the TV series "Friends," Matthew Perry, passed away at the age of 54, according to TMZ.
According to law enforcement agencies, the actor was found in a hot tub at his own home in the Los Angeles area on Saturday. Emergency responders arrived in response to a call about cardiac arrest.
No drugs or signs of foul play were found at the scene.
Acting career
Perry is most famous for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular sitcom "Friends," which ran for 10 seasons. He appeared in all 234 episodes of the series. "Friends" received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
His acting career began in 1987-1988 when he played the role of Chazz Russell in the series "Second Chance." After the first 13 episodes, the format and title of the show changed to "Boys Will Be Boys," with the plot focusing on the adventures of Chazz and his friends. The show only lasted one season.
Perry remained in Los Angeles and got his debut role in the feature film "A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon" (1988). In 1989, he had a guest role in the series "Growing Pains," playing Carol's second boyfriend, who died in the hospital from injuries sustained in a car accident resulting from drunk driving.
He also appeared in TV shows such as "Boys Will Be Boys," "Silver Spoons," "Charles in Charge," "Sydney," "Beverly Hills, 90210," and many others.
In 2022, Perry wrote an autobiographical book about the filming of "Friends" titled "Friends, Lovers, and One Big Terrible Thing."
