French senators call for urgent boost in drone and artillery deliveries to Ukraine
French senators visited Ukraine and urged to increase supplies of drones, artillery, and other necessary equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the page of the French Senate.
"The delegation of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Armed Forces visited Poland and Ukraine from December 18 to 22 to assess the situation ahead of the second anniversary of Russian aggression," the statement reads.
The delegation was led by Cedric Perrin and included senators Olivier Cigolotti, Ronan Le Gleut, and Jean-Marc Vayssouze-Faure.
Meetings with senators
The delegation had discussions with various officials including the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva.
They also met with the Head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, who provided precise information about the front development and prospects in the coming months.
Urgent need to increase weapon deliveries
The delegation held meetings with relevant committees of the Polish parliament and President Andrzej Duda's security advisor. The senators were convinced of the urgent need to increase deliveries of decisive ammunition and technology to Ukraine in this war. This included drones, artillery, and electronic warfare means.
According to Cedric Perrin, Ukraine is fighting with incredible courage and energy.
"Let us never forget that by fighting for their land, Ukrainians are also fighting for the security of the whole of Europe, which would be seriously compromised in the event of a Russian victory," he said.
The senators are confident that more should be achieved, especially in terms of ammunition supplies and industrial cooperation between the two countries.
France's position on the war in Ukraine
Since the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, France has been one of the European countries providing active financial and military support to Ukraine.
It was recently reported that Ukrainian Armed Forces pilots will begin arriving in France next year to undergo training as part of military assistance.
A month ago, the French government announced intentions to allocate an additional 200 million euros to the Ukraine support fund, allowing the Ukrainian army to continue purchasing French equipment.
