French Mirage 2000 aircraft are not option for Ukraine - Spokesperson of Air Forces explains
French Mirage 2000 strike aircraft will not meet Ukraine's aviation needs. Therefore, Ukraine wants to acquire a modern multi-role plane, according to the spokesperson of the Air Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yurii Ihnat.
He noted that any military assistance is essential for Ukraine, but it does not apply to Mirage 2000 aircraft.
"Any assistance is important to us, but not in the form of Mirage 2000. We have talked about this many times. Well, what can an A-10 attack aircraft do? Russian air defenses will simply destroy it. We need to gain an advantage in the air. We need a multi-role aircraft, modern, capable of performing all the tasks I mentioned earlier," the spokesperson explained.
Ihnat stated that Ukraine requires aircraft to provide air superiority, deter Russian aviation from our borders and occupied territory, strike ground and surface targets, protect airspace, and destroy cruise missiles and drones.
In the spokesperson's opinion, transferring Mirage 2000 aircraft would not be a rational decision, and mastering them would only drain Ukraine's aviation resources.
"Therefore, we cannot afford to take everything from the aviation inventory today. It's not rational. It will simply exhaust our personnel. We need to focus on one, at most, two types of multi-role aircraft capable of performing the tasks I mentioned. Mirage 2000 is an outdated model, and France has much better aircraft, as does Europe. So, we are considering the aircraft we have been talking about," Ignat emphasized.
Why Mirage 2000 came up
Earlier, there were reports in the media that Ukrainian pilots were supposedly undergoing training on Mirage 2000 aircraft in France. Later, the Ministries of Defense of both countries denied these claims.
Yesterday, Western media once again reported that Ukraine is negotiating with France over the transfer of Mirage 2000D strike aircraft. Moreover, according to journalists, a Ukrainian delegation has allegedly traveled to France to discuss this matter.
