France intends to quadruple mortar shells production
French industrial company Thales plans to quadruple its mortar shell production by 2026, citing the company’s press service.
The company reported that production rates at the factory in La Ferté-Saint-Aubin will be significantly increased—from 20,000 munitions per year in 2023 to more than 80,000 shells per year by 2026.
Deliveries of 120-mm munitions under these contracts will be carried out in stages from 2024 to 2029, with the first delivery scheduled for the last quarter of 2024.
The company highlighted that the 120-mm rifled munitions produced by Thales are the only munitions with characteristics equivalent to 155-mm munitions.
Previously, it was reported that one of the NATO member countries ordered artillery munitions worth 300 million euros from the German defense company Rheinmetall.
