France confirms participation in purchase of 800,000 shells for Ukraine, Macron says
France supports the Czech initiative to purchase 800,000 artillery shells for Ukraine and will participate in it, announces President Emmanuel Macron.
"The Czech initiative is extremely useful, we support it, we’ll participate in it. It consists of looking for ammunition everywhere it is available and is compatible with the equipment we’ve delivered," Macron notes during a meeting with Czech President Petr Pavl.
Regarding funding for the purchase of ammunition, Macron has explained that "it can be a bilateral mobilization, it can be cooperations with third parties, bilateral financing, just as it can be European financing..."
He adds that the European Peace Fund could be used for purchasing ammunition.
800,000 shells for Ukraine
Last month, the President of Czechia stated that Prague had found about 800,000 units of ammunition that could be purchased from non-EU countries and delivered to Ukraine within a few weeks if funding is secured.
This initiative serves as a contingency plan since the EU did not fulfill its promise to provide Ukraine with 1 million artillery shells by March.
It has recently been announced that Ukraine is preparing to receive the first batch of 800,000 ammunition units found by Czechia.
